Cllr Jenny Conroy, the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Children and Young People at County Hall has welcomed news that Northamptonshire will receive £5m in funding for educating children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Cllr Conroy said:
“The Pupil Premium was one of the Liberal Democrats main policies at the last election. It’s great to see that policy in action. I’m delighted that in the next year alone disadvantaged children will get £5m extra spent on their education”
“We have seen in recent reports how entrenched child poverty is in our County. It is a shocking indictment of the last Labour Government that after 13 years, 41 per cent of children growing up in Spencer still live in poverty. That is an absolute scandal.”
“I know that it will take time to make sure every child has a decent opportunity in life no matter their background, but I also know that the Pupil Premium will have a big impact for local youngsters.”
