Chris Stanbra, County Councillor for Danesholme, has delivered a petition to County Hall with over 500 signatures on it calling on the County Council to Save Danesholme Library from closure.

Chris commented “This petition shows the strength of local feeling against the closure. I’d like to thank everyone who signed it and also thank all those who helped collect the signatures.

Over half of the library’s unique users are children under the age of 12, the very people we should encourage to use the library service in order to ensure long term sustainability and the very people who are least able to access alternative libraries.

The amount saved by closing Danesholme Library is the lowest of the eight libraries proposed for closure and the cost per unique user is also the lowest of the eight libraries proposed for closure. Danesholme Library is therefore the best value for money library of the eight proposed for closure.

I’m calling on the County Council to put an end to the uncertainty and make an immediate announcement that Danesholme Library will remain a County Council run library.”
