Conservatives must U-turn over Speed Camera Cuts

Cllr Brendan Glynane has written to the Evening Telegraph calling for the Conservatives to U-turn over the speed camera cuts after Police stated that there had been an increase in speeding.

Today the Police have confirmed what we all knew would happen when the Conservative County Council slashed funding for speed cameras. People are speeding more. The Liberal Democrats opposed this cut in this year’s budget, as we were very concerned that turning off the speed cameras would lead to an increase in speeding and casualties on our roads.

Over the border, in Oxfordshire they tried this last year. After an increase in serious injuries and deaths they turned them back on after just 6 months. Why Northamptonshire’s Conservatives didn’t learn from their counterparts mistakes is beyond me.

It is clearly time for the Conservative County Council to u-turn on this disastrous policy. The road they are recklessly speeding down has been travelled before and proven to be extremely dangerous.
