The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Official Opposition at Northamptonshire County Council, Cllr Brendan Glynane, has called on the Conservative administration to listen to local people after the Liberal Democrats stormed to victory in the previously safe Conservative seat in Towcester on a 31% swing.

Newly elected Cllr Chris Lofts won 61% of the vote, with 1279 votes to the Conservatives 638. In 2009 the Conservatives had won 1648 votes to 760 for the Liberal Democrats, a majority of 888.

Cllr Glynane said “I’m delighted to welcome Cllr Chris Lofts to the County Council as the new Councillor for Towcester. Chris is immensely hard-working and experienced and will be a fantastic local champion for Towcester.”

“Residents have sent a clear message to the Conservatives at the ballot box. The record of arrogance and failure must change. Whether it be wasting money on offices in Brussels or portraits, or making our County more dangerous by switching off half the lights and cutting PCSOs, it is clear that local people are fed up with the Conservative administration.”

Newly elected Towcester Councillor, Chris Lofts said “I’m delighted that local residents have put their faith in me and the Liberal Democrats. I will continue to work hard, speak up for local people, and hold the Conservatives accountable for their decisions.”
