Cllr Sally Beardsworth, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children’s Social Services at Northamptonshire County Council, has today called for more support for looked after children and families who adopt.
Cllr Beardsworth said “The Government has today clearly stated that the length of time children are waiting for adoption is not good enough. I agree this is a major problem, but I would go further – in some cases in Northamptonshire we need to be protecting children from harmful circumstances by acting much more quickly.”
“There is a real problem in terms of the support available to families who adopt as well. Is there enough support post-adoption? This year there has been a marked increase in adoptions that have broken down. This is a tragedy for the children involved, and the families. We must do more to support both vulnerable children and families who are adopting.”
