The Conservative decision to pull out of Northamptonshire’s  Casualty Reduction Partnership has been condemned by Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats.

Cllr Glynane, Leader of the Opposition Liberal Democrats at Northamptonshire County Council, said  “One of the first casualties of this move is to switch off speed cameras. This is crazy and dangerous. Lives are being put at risk by the Conservatives decision to abandon the Casualty Reduction Partnership.”

“This is a disgraceful decision by Northamptonshire Conservatives. Statistics show that the number of people seriously injured or killed on our roads has fallen by 61 per cent since 1998. This is an indication of just how important prevention is. In other places, such as neighbouring Oxfordshire, when the Conservative controlled County Council did this there they had to switch them on again only 8 weeks later. I can only hope that Northamptonshire Conservatives do a similar U-turn, otherwise Northamptonshire’s roads will be a lot more dangerous.”
