“Library review leaves no library safe” Cllr Brendan Glynane

The Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition at County Hall, Cllr Brendan Glynane, has today warned that the Conservatives proposed library review could lead to library closures across Northamptonshire.

Cllr Glynane said “We warned at February’s budget meeting that the Conservatives’ proposed review of libraries was a smokescreen after the massive backlash against library closures. This review leaves no library safe. What happens if groups can’t afford to take on services? And why should the public have to fork out their cash when they already pay their taxes for core services, such as libraries? The Conservatives are still wasting money which could be saved in back office services. Indeed if the Conservative group spent the money they claimed on travel expenses this year they could keep more libraries open. I urge local residents to respond to the review as vigorously as they did earlier in the year – the fight to save our libraries from the Conservatives is just beginning. Cuts to the library service are the wrong cuts for Northamptonshire.”
