Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition at Northamptonshire County Council, Cllr Brendan Glynane, has attacked the decision by Conservative Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles to allow a proposed Nuclear waste dump to be placed at Kings Cliffe. Cllr Glynane, who joined local residents and Liberal Democrat activists at a protest last year at the planning enquiry, said
“This is a real slap in the face for local people. Time and time again the people of Northamptonshire have said that we do not want this waste dumped here. Yet the Conservative Secretary of State has overridden the clear, expressed will of local people and forced this decision upon the community.”
“This is unacceptable, especially from a politician who professes to follow localism. Not only that, but all the claims that Northamptonshire’s Conservatives have sway over their ministers have been proven to be false. I call on Northamptonshire’s Conservative leaders to join me in vigorously opposing this ill-thought out, wrong-headed and centrally imposed decision.”
