Cllr Brendan Glynane, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Official Opposition at County Hall has today slammed the Conservatives after Brackmills businesses had to dip into their own pockets to pay for lighting and gritting.
Cllr Glynane said “This is double taxation and is unacceptable. Businesses in Brackmills already pay for lights and gritting through their rates. The Conservatives decision to switch off so many lights has meant that businesses are having to pay again, in order that their employees can get to and from work safely.”
“The money from the Business Improvement District (BID) was supposed to fund improvements to help businesses grow. Instead local businesses are having to spend it on basic services that the Conservative-run County Council should be providing. The Conservatives should listen to local people and businesses and find the money to cover their basic responsibilities and switch the lights back on themselves.”
