Cllr Brendan Glynane, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Official Opposition at Northamptonshire County Council today reacted with dismay at the news that the Conservatives have not published data on Northamptonshire’s speed cameras despite being instructed to by the Government.
Cllr Glynane said “What do Northamptonshire Conservatives have to hide? I really hope that we are not seeing a big increase in serious injuries and deaths on our roads after Northamptonshire Conservatives decision to slash the funding for speed cameras. The Liberal Democrats repeatedly warned against these cuts. We know when cameras were switched off in Oxfordshire there was an increase in deaths and serious injuries.”
“The police have already warned this summer that speeding is on the increase in Northamptonshire. Have Northamptonshire Conservatives’ cuts made our roads more dangerous? The Conservatives need to come clean and tell local residents the truth.”
