Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats have attacked the Conservatives for not replacing failing gritters earlier.
Cllr Jane Hollis, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said “The Conservatives should have acted sooner over gritters. A Cabinet report states that over the last winter 4 gritters were off the roads as they were in such a bad state. This can only have made the clearing of our roads a far more difficult job than it needed to be.”
“Given that we had a bad winter the year before the state of the gritters can’t have been a surprise. Why then did the Conservatives not act before last winter? Residents will not be happy to discover that the Conservatives incompetence added to the chaos on Northamptonshire’s roads over the last winter.”
