The Liberal Democrat Group Leader at Northampton Borough Council, Cllr Sally Beardsworth, has called for the Conservatives stop fighting amongst themselves and put the town first, following the resignation of the former Leader, Cllr Palethorpe, and the appointment of Cllr Mackintosh.

Cllr Beardsworth said “It is crucial that the Conservatives stop fighting and put the town first. Local people do not expect to see a Leader of the Council that they elected being dispatched of by his colleagues within months.”

“On a personal note I am sorry to see Cllr Palethorpe go. He was a decent man and should have been treated better by his group. I just hope Cllr Mackintosh is up to the job and can carry his backbenchers with him. He will need to quickly develop the gravitas to bring partners on board if the Conservatives are to deliver on their manifesto.”
