Cllr Sally Beardsworth, Liberal Democrat Group Leader at Northampton Borough Council, has condemned plans announced by David Cameron to increase the discounts for right to buy.
Cllr Beardsworth said “The big problem with making right-to-buy more available is the loss of affordable housing for local people. The money received will go back to the Government, not stay in Northampton. Local people who need help with housing won’t be helped by this at all.”
“Not only that but new homes built will be at 80% of market rents, which is not affordable for many families in need, least of all those who are homeless. People will be forced on to benefits and trapped between losing their job or their home. The Conservatives need to think again.”
