“Bus review could leave rural shift workers stranded and see prices skyrocket” Cllr Hollis

The Liberal Democrats have called for the Conservatives to take steps to ensure that Northamptonshire residents are not left stranded by changes to bus services.

Cllr Hollis said “The Conservatives plans for buses will have a major impact on Northamptonshire residents. There is a real danger for people who live in rural areas and rely on buses to get to work, particularly shift workers. Without regular services they could be left high and dry.”

“The reduction in subsidies on those routes still running could see prices rise. Already in Northamptonshire a Stagecoach Weekly pass will set you back £25, whilst the same pass in Milton Keynes costs half of that, at £12. Removing subsidies will mean that Northamptonshire’s residents may have to pay even more.”

“The Liberal Democrats voted against major cuts to the bus services. We want to see rural communities and residents struggling to get by on low incomes protected by the Conservatives cuts.”
