“Buckton Fields land should not be sold by Conservatives at County Hall” Cllr Beardsworth

Cllr Sally Beardsworth has called on the Conservatives at County Hall to block the proposed development at Buckton Fields by refusing to sell the land. The Conservative-run County Council owns the majority of the land where the controversial development is proposed.

Cllr Beardsworth said “Local residents are really concerned about the development at Buckton Fields. Traffic in Kingsthorpe is already terrible. All the work at the Cock Hotel junction will be for nothing if 1050 new houses are built at Buckton Fields. Not only that but there is a real risk of increased flooding in Northampton.”

“For all the problems local residents will face, it will be the Daventry District Council who get the council tax – meaning there will be no benefits for local people. There are lots of brownfield sites across the town that should be used to build the housing local families need before we start concreting over green fields.”

“The County Council owns large swathes of the land. If they refused to sell it then the development would not go ahead. The Conservatives could block this development if they wanted to. This is a real test of localism. Will the Conservatives listen to local residents, or will they ignore them as we have seen on so many different occasions before?”
