Lib Dem County Councillor Sarah Uldall has been meeting with senior staff of the new Northampton International Academy, which is being built on the site of the old Royal Mail building on the Barrack Road.
“I thought it was time for a proper update on the progress of the new school,” said Sarah.
It will be a through school for ages 4 to 18. The sponsors are the EMLC Academy Trust who also run nearby Castle Academy.
This September the school opened its doors to 300 year 7 and 60 reception children in temporary huts. Sarah was taken on a tour of these classrooms while lessons were taking place. “Once inside, these rooms are no different from proper classrooms,” she said.
It is hoped that the main building will be ready to house students in September 2017. Children go down to the BBOB rugby club for PE lessons. There will be a sports hall on the roof the size of 4 badminton courts.
Because of the huge scale of the existing building there are plans for commercial spaces also. There will most likely be several flats, a cafe, a gym and perhaps a theatre.
“It is hoped that it will be a school in the daytime and a hub for the local community in the evening,” said Sarah.
It is inevitable that there will be additional traffic congestion as the school opensits doors to more students. A new junction has been planned for the Barrack Road entrance.
Children can arrive at school from 7.45am for an 8.15am start and a 3.45pm finish.

Lib Dem Brian Markham 583
After the result Brian said " I am so proud that my neighbours in Westone Ward have put their faith in me to be their local councillor and will work hard to justify their support. Lots of people told us on the doorstep that they remembered how hard the Lib Dem Focus Team worked for the area in the past and our committment to the ward".
" The result also reflected people's disappointment at the Tory run councils" said Brian. " There are potholes everywhere, services are being reduced and the Borough Council lent over £10million to the Cobblers without proper guarantees and security. The council is now having to pick up the interest on that loan and still doesn't know where the money has one"
