A Vote for The Liberal Democrats is a vote to change our broken politics

It is clear that whether Theresa May or Labour "win" on Thursday they will lead a divided country and a government that more people voted against than voted for.

The Liberal Democrats want to Change Britain's Future by changing our politics.

Liberal Democrats would:

  • Introduce the Single Transferable Vote for local government elections in England and for electing MPs across the UK.
  • Reform the House of Lords with a proper democratic mandate.
  • Take big money out of politics by capping donations to political parties at £10,000 per person each year, and introducing wider reforms to party funding along the lines of the 2011 report of the Committee on Standards in Public Life.
  • Deliver on our promises to Scotland in full, devolve more powers to Wales, and secure the political stability of Northern Ireland.

A Stronger and Greener Economy

OUR PLAN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

icons_environment_1.png

Prevent 40,000 premature deaths a year by cutting air pollution.

icons_environment_2.png

Ban fracking, and more than double green electricity to 60 per cent by 2030.

Ensure that 4 million properties receive insulation retrofits by 2022, prioritising the fuel poor.

Climate change and air pollution threaten our future – but by investing in renewable energy and stopping the waste of energy and natural resources, we can protect our health and the environment, and boost the economy.

An Open and Liberal Economic Future

mini_Plant.jpg

We want to build an economy which allows people and business to thrive.

Liberal Democrats are a pro free-trade, pro-business party.

We know that if we want to support the most vulnerable, give people the opportunity to succeed and deliver strong schools, hospitals and other public services we need a growing, stable economy.

That means building a sustainable economy, fit for the future, alongside a thriving business community. We want an economy built on ensuring regional growth, embracing new technology and being an outward looking, internationally-minded country.

Yet the Conservative Government is letting everyone down when it comes to our economic security.

Despite claiming to be the party of business, they have now turned their back on the needs of business by threatening to leave the Single Market, devastating business and our economy, and pursuing spending plans based on the short term interest of the Conservative Party, not the long term health of our economy.

Meanwhile, Labour are shying away from the huge challenges facing our economy.

Instead of working to ensure globalisation, and huge leaps in technology work for all of us, they are seeking to stop them in their tracks. They cannot deliver a prosperous economy, or provide an economically credible opposition to the Conservative Party.

Liberal Democrats want to work to build an economy which allows people and business to thrive.

George Smid to fight for Northampton

George Smid to fight Northampton North

George Smid has been selected to stand for the Liberal Democrats in Northampton North in the forthcoming General Election.

The Liberal Democrats have a strong track record in general elections in this constituency which was a 3 way marginal in 2010 when the Liberal Democrats secured 27.9% of the vote.

George moved to England in 1981 to escape persecution by the Russians in his home country of Czechoslovakia. He gained his British Citizenship in 1987 and his children have grown up as British citizens enjoying a British way of life.

George lives with his wife in rural North Northamptonshire where he is active in his local community. He is a member of the Parish Council and takes an active interest in local developments and protecting local services.

George’s professional career has been in Civil and Structural Engineering where he has worked in the public as well as the private sector. After working for an international company, he set up on his own business consultancy company helping companies with cross border projects and new market entries.

As an MP George will fight to secure financing for local projects to solve local problems: care for the elderly and disabled, road improvement to Kingsthorpe traffic congestion, social housing, solar, not wind farm, recycling and renewable energy.

Residents in this constituency need an MP who will stand up for their concerns not another Conservative MP trooping through the Government lobbies under the instruction of a Prime Minister with a comfortable majority.
